DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball announced recently that sophomore right-handed pitcher Jeff Criswell of the University of Michigan Baseball team has been selected to the 26-man 2019 Collegiate National Team.
Team USA is hosting the 8th Annual USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series, which ends July 6. The five-game series is taking place across various locations in North Carolina, including LP Frans Stadium (Hickory), BB&T Ballpark (Charlotte), the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (Durham) and the National Training Complex (Cary).
The Collegiate National Team then will leave for Taiwan on July 7. Team USA will travel to Taichung, Taiwan, for the 19th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series from July 9-12 and will wrap up its summer schedule with the 43rd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series, which will take place in various cities throughout Japan from July 16-21.
The team is to be managed by Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell. Mark Kingston (South Carolina) and Tony Skole (The Citadel) will serve as assistants alongside pitching coach Greg Moore (St. Mary's) and bench coach Dave Turgeon (Pittsburgh Pirates).
Criswell finished the season with a 7-1 record through 22 appearances and 17 starts. He earned three saves on the year -- all of which came during the NCAA Tournament -- as his role transitioned from a starter to a reliever during the Wolverines' historic run to the College World Series Finals. In his second season with the Maize and Blue, Criswell led Michigan starting pitchers with a 2.72 earned-run average across 106 innings pitched with 116 strikeouts. The Portage, Michigan, native also was named to the All-Big Ten Conference first team.
