
Michigan Earns 15th Win of the Season at Detroit Mercy

DETROIT, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team capped off its 2019 regular season with its 15th win, defeating Detroit Mercy, 14-7, at Titan Field on Tuesday evening (April 23).
Senior Adriana Pendino set Michigan's single-season goals record after she scored twice against the Titans to give her 37 on the year. Pendino surpassed Kim Coughlan, who scored 36 in both the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.
Sophomore Maggie Kane also extended her goal streak to 22 games, scoring her lone goal of the game to start the second half.
Michigan dominated the draw control, 17-8, and forced Detroit Mercy into 24 turnovers, 17 of which were caused.
Five Wolverines had multi-goal games with Lilly Grass, Kaitlyn Mead, Caitlin Muir, Pendino and Nadine Stewart all scoring two each.
Freshman Claire Galvin netted her first career goal and Stewart had a standout game for the Maize and Blue and she tied a career best with six ground balls and also added four caused turnovers.
All three goalkeepers saw time in the cage with Mira Shane earning her 12th win of the season. Shane and Alli Kothari each made one save, while Arielle Weissman made three stops.
Michigan opened up the scoring with two goals, but Detroit Mercy responded with two of its own to knot the score at 2 early in the first half. The U-M offense got into a rhythm minutes later, scoring eight unanswered goals to close out the opening frame and take a 10-2 lead into the intermission.
Grass, Muir and Stewart all netted two goals in the first 30 minutes of play, while seven Wolverines found a goal in the first half, including Grace Hemmer scoring her first of the season and Kelly Poole adding her second of the year.
Kane opened the second-half scoring before Pendino set the Michigan single-season goals mark and started the running clock as the Wolverines took a 12-2 advantage over the Titans.
Michigan extended its lead to 13-2 before UDM netted two straight to stop the running clock with U-M leading, 13-4, with 9:48 to play in the contest. The Titans continued to cut into the Michigan lead, going on a 5-0 run to bring them within five.
Michigan will wait to find out its seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be hosted by Johns Hopkins starting Friday, May 3.
