
Michigan to Host Rutgers in Home Finale

The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will host Rutgers on Saturday (April 13) for its home finale in which it will honor the careers of its 11 seniors prior to the start of the contest against the Scarlet Knights at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The Wolverines seek to complete the program's first undefeated season at home.
Series History with Rutgers
• Michigan has struggled with the Scarlet Knights in the past as Rutgers holds a 4-0 lead in the all-time series with the Wolverines.
• The Wolverines have dropped two one-goal games to Rutgers, most recently a 9-8 overtime loss in 2018.
• A win over Rutgers would give Michigan its first undefeated home season in the six-year history of the program.
Glancing at the Scarlet Knights
• Rutgers is looking for its first win in Big Ten Conference play as it is 0-3 in league action and 5-8 overall this season.
• The Scarlet Knights are led by Taralyn Naslonski, who has a team-best 55 points (37 goals, 18 assists), also while leading the team with 45 draw controls.
• Also netting 30-plus goals this year for Rutgers is Samantha Budd, who has 31 goals and 12 assists.
• Defensively, Regina Sharp and Dakota Pastore have 15 and 14 caused turnovers, respectively, for Rutgers.
• In net, Kameron Halsall has played in 12 games, starting nine, and carries a team-best .427 save percentage and a team-high 99 saves.
Kane Carries Program-Best Goal Streak
• Sophomore Maggie Kane has been a major part of the Michigan offense in her sophomore season, ranking third with 31 points in 14 games.
• This year, Kane has netted 28 goals and has seven multi-goal games.
• Kane has scored in all 14 games this season and in 19 straight games dating back to last season to hold the Michigan record for consecutive games with a goal.
• Kane's goal streak dates back to April 3, 2018, with her goal against Notre Dame.
• The sophomore surpassed Anna Schueler's record of 16 games Feb. 22, 2015-April 30, 2015.
Having a Record Year
• The Wolverines went on a 15-game win streak that dated back to last season and included a 13-0 start to 2019 before they suffered their first loss to No. 2 Maryland last Saturday (April 6).
• This year's team has found itself in the record book 36 times alone in the 2019 season and 53 times in the past two seasons combined.
• A few notable team stats from this season include:
- Most wins (13)
- Most goals in a season (193)
- Most ground balls in a single game (30)
- Second in fewest turnovers (nine, twice)
- Third in goals scored in a single game (20)
- Fourth in fewest goals allowed (three)
• The Wolverines have three regular-season games remaining and are attempting to put together their first undefeated season in Ann Arbor as they are 8-0 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium in 2019.
Shane Added to Tewaaraton Watch List
• Senior Mira Shane is one of 11 players -- and one of three from the Big Ten -- that were added to the Tewaarton Award watch list Thursday (April 11).
• The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
• This season, Shane has posted a program-best 10 wins, while breaking the single game saves record with 18. She has also tallied four games with 10-or-more saves in the cage and carries a .521 save percentage.
• The list will be narrowed to 25 on April 25, and the five award finalists will be named on May 9, with the winner to be announced May 30 in Washington, D.C.
Shane joins teammate Molly Garrett on the 2019 list, while Michigan head coach Hannah Nielsen was a two-time Tewaarton Award winner (2008, '09) during her time at Northwestern.
Senior Profiles
• Gabby Burns - Has played in 42 games as a defender. She will graduate this spring with a degree in sociology and plans to move to New York City and work in marketing.
• Casey Cummo - Transferred to Michigan and played in 30 games as a defender. She will return for her fifth year as a student assistant with the women's lacrosse program in 2020.
• Maggie Handlan - Appeared in 38 career games before suffering a season-ending injury. She will return as a graduate student for the 2020 season after completing her degree in biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience this spring.
• Carly Heine - Appeared in six games before retiring due to injury and was a student assistant this past season. She will graduate with a degree in psychology and will be working in Detroit, Michigan, for Insight Global.
• Grace Hemmer - Played in 21 games as a midfielder. She will graduate with a degree in psychology and has accepted a full-time job at TD Ameritrade in financial counseling.
• Maddie Klee - Played in 11 games as an attacker. She will graduate this spring with a degree in communication studies and plans to pursue a career in the fashion industry.
• Adriana Pendino - Appeared in 50 games and ranks fifth all-time with 84 points and 74 goals as an attacker. She will graduate with a degree in sport management and plans to work full-time in New York.
• Madison Richardson - Played in 49 games as a defender. She will graduate with a degree in English and plans to apply for law school upon her graduation.
• Megan Schulte - Appeared in seven games as an attacker. She will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration and plans to work in Chicago, Illinois.
• Mira Shane - Appeared in 57 games and holds the career wins record (21), also while holding the single-game saves record (18). She will graduate this spring with a degree in African American Studies and she accepted a full-time job in talent acquisition with Anheuser-Busch to work on diversity, equality and inclusion.
• Ariana Vespa - Played in 19 games as a midfielder. She will graduate this spring with a degree in political science and will attend Ross School of Business next year to pursue her master's degree.
