ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Graduating senior Alec Rennard of the University of Michigan baseball program signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a free agent on Tuesday (June 26).
Rennard will join the ranks of three Michigan players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft in early June, including left-handed pitcher William Tribucher, right-handed pitcher Jayce Vancena and outfielder Jonathan Engelmann.
A right-handed pitcher from Santa Rosa, California, Rennard joined the Maize and Blue as a junior-transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College where he guided his team to a California Community College State Championship in 2016. In two seasons with the Wolverines, Rennard totaled eight wins over 102 innings pitched and posted 4.06 earned-run average in 29 appearances, including 15 starts. The righty struck out 94 batters and allowed just 24 walks through his two years at Michigan.
