
Michigan Preparing for NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa

The 2018 Big Ten champion University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will compete this Saturday (April 7) at 4 p.m. CDT in the Tuscaloosa NCAA Regional hosted by the University of Alabama.
MEET INFO
• No. 7 Michigan will be competing in its 28th NCAA Regional.
• The Wolverines are the second seed in the regional behind No. 6 Alabama. U-M finished with an RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) of 197.160, just .005 behind the Crimson Tide. Joining them in the regional will be No. 18 Georgia, No. 22 Missouri, No. 23 Illinois and No. 36 Central Michigan.
• Head coach Bev Plocki has led the team to 27 NCAA Regional appearances in her 29 years with the team. U-M has advanced to the NCAA Championship in 22 of its previous 26 regional appearances.
• U-M has won 12 NCAA Regional titles, including last year when it scored a 197.350 to top Alabama at the Morgantown, West Virginia, regional.
• Last year, Paige Zaziski led Michigan to the regional title with wins in the all-around (39.575), vault (9.875) and uneven bars (9.950).
• The Wolverines are in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for a NCAA Regional for the third time. The previous two were 1994 and 1998. U-M took third in 1994 behind Alabama and LSU, and second behind the Crimson Tide in 1998. Michigan was last in Tuscaloosa for a regular-season matchup in 2010.
• U-M has won multiple titles at NCAA Regionals, including 13 all-around, 14 vault, 21 uneven bars, seven balance beam and 13 floor exercise.Â
• The Wolverines will start the meet on beam and then will go bye, floor, vault, bye and finish on bars.
• Michigan enters the meet with a 24-2-1 record. The Wolverines went 8-1 in Big Ten meets to capture their fourth Big Ten regular-season title in six years, then completed the title sweep with a 197.200 to claim the Big Ten Championship for the 24th time in school history. Â
LAST TIME OUT
• For the fifth straight year, and 24th time in school history, the Wolverines won the Big Ten Championship. U-M finished with a score of 197.200 in Champaign, Illinois.
• Plocki has led U-M to 23 of its 24 titles to tie former Indiana men's swimming head coach James "Doc" Counsilman for the most conference titles by any head coach of any sport in Big Ten history.
• U-M won two individual titles with senior Brianna Brown claiming her second career bars title with a 9.950 to tie for the win, and senior Lauren Marinez won her first title on beam with a score of 9.900 to tie for the victory.Â
• Brown, Marinez and Zaziski were all named to the All-Big Ten Championships team for their high finishes, as Zaziski took second in the all-around with a 39.500.
• Michigan posted six scores of 9.900 or better with three coming on bars as they notched their eighth-best score all-time at the Big Ten Championships.
• After the meet, Zaziski was named Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Year, the 12th in Michigan's program history.
