The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team (5-9, 1-3 B1G) travels to Rutgers on Thursday in a pivotal Big Ten Conference game at 7 p.m., live on Big Ten Network.
WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan enters play following a 10-8 setback to Johns Hopkins on Sunday (April 8). The loss dropped Michigan to 1-3 in conference play with two games remaining. The top four teams will advance to the conference tournament hosted by Michigan at the state-of-the-art U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
• On Sunday, No. 24-ranked Johns Hopkins used a 7-0 scoring run in the first half to propel itself to a 10-8 win. Johns Hopkins erased a 3-0 Michigan lead by scoring seven straight goals over the final 21 minutes of the first half. Michigan jumped on top early behind two markers from Adriana Pendino, with the Wolverines allowing just a single shot over the first nine minutes of action. Momentum shifted quickly following a big save from Alli Kothari at the 21-minute mark. On that shot, JHU was awarded a free-position shot following a foul and Mackenzie Heldberg scored the first of her four goals in a 7-0 Blue Jays run as the visitors took a commanding lead into halftime.
• Three of the goals came after U-M was whistled for fouls to negate key saves or turnovers. The Wolverines did not help themselves by converting just one of four free position shot attempts in the half.
Bianca Brueckner and Pendino led U-M with two goals piece while Kothari played well in goal with 10 saves.
• Junior Adriana Pendino matched her career high of five points against UDM, finishing with four goals and one assist.
• In three of Michigan's five victories this season, the Wolverines have held their opponents to four goals or fewer -- Butler (W, 12-2), Canisius (W, 14-3) and Central Michigan (W, 12-4). The two goals allowed against Butler rank third in program history for fewest goals allowed in a game. The exception came in Saturday's 9-7 victory over Ohio State.
• Adriana Pendino has scored three or more goals in a game six times this season.
• Bianca Brueckner is the only Wolverine to score in all games played this season, tallying one goal in each of the 13 games she has appeared in, including the career-setting game versus Detroit Mercy and the three versus Maryland. She has played in 13 of 14 games this season and has 25 total points, with 20 goals and five assists.
• Freshman Caitlin Muir has started each of the last 11 games after missing the first three games of the season due to injury.
• Molly Garrett continues to lead Michigan in draw controls this season, winning 42.
Scouting Rutgers:
Rutgers enters play on Thursday at 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Scarlet Knights are 4-2 at home with recent wins over Lafayette and Niagara.
Kerri Puckhaber leads the team with 22 goals and 34 points while Abbey Brooks leads the team with 15 assists as part of her 32 total points. Samantha Budd (27) and Paige Paratore (26) are also among the team leaders in goals scored.
