Detroit Mercy cut Michigan's advantage in half when it tallied its first goal at 21:07. Brueckner then scored her first two goals of the day, with a UDM goal separating Brueckner's pair of goals, and the Wolverines led, 4-2, at the 17:32 mark.
The Titans made it a one-goal game, 4-3, at 12:58, before Michigan went on a 4-0 run to close the half. Freshman Caitlin Muir converted a free-position goal to start the run, then Brueckner and Pendino each completed their first-half hat tricks, scoring one and two goals, respectively, in the final nine minutes. Pendino's first of two goals during that stretch came with one second left on the shot clock, as she ripped a quick sidearm-shot into the upper-right corner.
The Wolverines picked up right where they left off and scored the first four goals of the second half. Brueckner tacked on her career-high fourth goal just 43 seconds in.
Detroit did not score until the 6:24 mark of the second half to make it 12-4 in favor of the Wolverines. Michigan answered back with its season-high fifth assisted goal of the season, when junior Maddie Klee fed freshman Erin Daly from behind the cage for the quick score with 5:14 remaining in the game.
The Titans closed the game on a 3-1 run with sophomore Nadine Stewart's free-position goal marking Michigan's final tally of the day.
Defensively, junior Maggie Handlan caused a career-high three caused turnovers and also added two ground balls. The Wolverines were edged, 12-11, on the draw, with Daly and fellow freshman Maggie Kane each winning a team-high four draw controls. It marked a new career best for Daly.
Junior goalie Mira Shane earned the start and win in cage for Michigan, making eight saves in 49 minutes, while freshman goalie Arielle Weissman saw action off the bench in her second consecutive game and made two stops.
The Wolverines will resume Big Ten play when they host Maryland on Saturday (March 31) at 3 p.m. at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
