
Meet the Baseball Newcomers, Part Two

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Erik Bakich announced the recruiting class for the 2016-17 academic year earlier this month. Michigan has 12 incoming student-athletes, including seven freshmen and five upperclassmen.
The group has already been ranked as the 29th-best recruiting class by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The next five students from the class to be recognized will be transfers Austin Batka (Grand Rapids, Mich./Lincoln Trail Community College), Brock Keener (Richmond, Texas/Alvin Community College), Miles Lewis (North Hudson, Wis./University of North Dakota), Nick Poirier (Alamo, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College) and Alec Rennard (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa Junior College).
Austin Batka - Jr. LHP - Grand Rapids, Michigan/Lincoln Trail Community College
In high school, he was a four time letterwinner at Grand Rapids Christian High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan... Led his team to two state championships... Named All-Conference, All-District and All-Region... Named captain of his team for his senior season... Previously played at the University of Chicago at Illinois and Lincoln Trail Community College... Played in the 2012 and 2013 Big League World Series and for the Central Region Team.
Brock Keener - Jr. C - Richmond, Texas/Alvin Community College
In high school, he was a three time letterwinner at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas... Two-time All-Region and All-Houston as well as All-State and first team All-District during his junior year... Was selected to play in the Houston All-Star Game... Played for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Alvin Community College... While there, he was selected to the All-Conference Team and the Texas/New Mexico JUCO All-Star Game.
Miles Lewis - Jr. OF - North Hudson, Wisconsin/University of North Dakota
In high school, he was a four time letterwinner at Hudson High School in North Hudson, Wisconsin... He was two-time first team All-Big Rivers Conference and All-State during his junior season... He was also Academic All-State in baseball, football and basketball... Previously played at The University of North Dakota... While there, he was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and was named 2016 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year... Was named All-Western Athletic Conference second team and 2015 Pre-Season Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year by Baseball America... Earned All-Western Athletic Conference Academic honors.
Nick Poirier - So. IF/OF - Alamo, California/San Joaquin Delta College
In high school, he was a two time letterwinner at San Ramon Valley High School in San Ramon Valley, California... As a junior, he was named to the first team All-EBAL, first team All-Northern California and first team All-California... As a senior he was named to the second team All-EBAL... He previously played for San Joaquin Delta College... While there, he was named to the first team All -Academic and played in the California Junior College Final Four Tournament.
Alec Rennard - Jr. RHP - Santa Rosa, California/Santa Rosa Junior College
Was named first-team All-League during his senior season... Previously played at Santa Rosa Community College... While there, he led his team to the California Community College State Championship and was named the State Championship Co-MVP... Named a 2016 First Team All-American and was an All-State pitcher... Was also named Nor-Cal Pitcher of the Year and Big 8 Conference Pitcher of the Year.
