
Meet the Baseball Newcomers, Part One

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Erik Bakich announced the recruiting class for the 2016-17 academic year earlier this month. The Maize and Blue has 12 incoming student-athletes, including seven freshmen and five upperclassmen.
The group of 12 includes five pitchers and five Michigan natives, and the group has already been ranked as the 29th-best recruiting class by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The first seven student-athletes from the class to be recognized will be freshmen Christan Bullock (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park High School), Marcus Chavez (Queens, N.Y./Grand St. Campus), Dominic Clementi (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Tommy Henry (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern), Karl Kauffmann (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) School), Harrison Salter (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) and Jack Weisenburger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford).
Christan Bullock - 1B/OF - Chicago, Illinois/Morgan Park High School
Three-time varsity letterwinner at Morgan Park High School in Chicago Illinois... As a freshman, he led his team to the first City Championship in school history... Won the Varsity City Championship his sophomore season, also for the first time in school history... Made it to the Final Four in the City Championship Regional... Came in fourth place in the State Championship his junior season... Led his team to Sectional and Super Regional victories during his senior year... Also played for the White Sox Aces.
Marcus Chavez - C - Queens, New York/Grand St. Campus
Four-time letterwinner at Grand St. Campus High School in Brooklyn, New York... Was named freshman of the year his first season... Three-time First Team All-New York City and was named Team MVP three times... Was team captain his junior and senior seasons... Won Outstanding New York City Baseball Player of the Year in 2016 and was the Wingate Award Recipient... He was also a Perfect Game Northeast Region Honorable Mention.
Dominic Clementi - OF - Hartland, Wisconsin/Arrowhead High School
Two-year varsity letterwinner at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin... Was named two-time First Team All-Conference, two-time Second Team All-District, two-time All-Lake Country Area and was voted Team Captain twice... Was named First Team All-Wisconsin for his senior season... Led his team to the State Championship game in 2016... Was named to the Perfect Game-Rawlings First Team All-Central Region in 2016... Also played in the MCYSA Summer International Championships (2011-2012), in the Premier Baseball World Series from 2012-2014 and in the Mid-America Classic in 2014.
Tommy Henry - LHP - Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern
Four-year varsity letterwinner at Portage Northern High School in Portage, Michigan... Helped his team win two district titles... Was named the Kalamazoo Gazette Player of the Year his junior and senior seasons... Named First Team All-State and to the Dream Team his junior and senior years... Named 2016 Mr. Baseball and won Gatorade Player of the Year... Also played for the Midwest Athletics and the Kalamazoo Maroons... Was also a member of the Student Senate and the Portage Northern basketball team for four years.
Karl Kauffmann - RHP - Bloomfield Hills, Michigan/Brother Rice
Four-time letterwinner at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan... Was All-League his freshman year and led his team to the State Championship Game... Named to the second team All-State during his sophomore season... Named to the first team All-State and Dream Team his junior year... Also was named a Perfect Game All-American in the same year... Was again named to the Dream Team and first team All-State again as a senior... Also played for the Midwest Elite and Midwest Athletics... Was invited to the East Coast Pro-Cubs and to the Area Code Games.
Harrison Salter - C - Bloomfield Hills, Michigan/Orchard Lake St. Mary's
Three-time varsity letterwinner at Orchard Lake St. Mary's High School in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan... Earned All-District, All-League and All-County selections twice... Was also a two-time Academic All-State selection... Led his team to an MHSAA State Championship during his junior season... Was named an MHSAA East All-Star his senior year... Also played for the Motor City Hit Dogs... Graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the National Honor Society... He has two brothers who both played baseball for Michigan State.
Jack Weisenburger - RHP/OF - Rockford, Michigan/Rockford High School
Four-year varsity letter-winner at Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan... Was a four-time All-District, All-Region and All-Conference player... Was also an All-State selection twice... Named to the Dream Team his senior season... Also played for the Midwest Athletics... Jack's father and grandfather were also Michigan athletes... His grandfather, John Weisenburger, played baseball and football at Michigan, including a Rose Bowl win in 1948.
