CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- University of Michigan baseball freshmen Jake Bivens has been selected to the Freshman All-America second team as a shortstop by Perfect Game, the organization announced Wednesday morning (July 1).
Bivens, a Battle Creek, Michigan, native that was U-M's first Freshman of the Year honoree since 1996, hit .319 with 68 hits, 43 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a .435 on-base percentage that is sixth in the Big Ten. Bivens has a 14-game hitting streak going into the conference tournament, and he had a 25-game reached-base streak earlier in the year. The two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week had 17 multi-hit games and was a perfect 5-for-5 in a win over Northwestern on May 10. Bivens had an RBI double in the 4-3 win over Bradley in the NCAA Louisville Regional.
Bivens has been selected a first team Freshman All-American by Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association and D1Baseball.com as well as being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2015.
This follows junior Jacob Cronenworth's third team All-America honor given by Perfect Game on Tuesday morning (June 30).
Michigan (39-25) capped off a season that saw the Maize and Blue win its ninth Big Ten Tournament title and advance to the championship game of the NCAA Louisville Regional.
