ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- It was a back-and-forth affair through five innings, but a six-spot in the top of the sixth inning elevated No. 13 Oklahoma State to an 11-5 win over the University of Michigan baseball team Friday night (May 15) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
The Wolverines got on the board in the bottom of the first as senior Jackson Glines belted a two-run home run down the right-field line. Oklahoma State's Donnie Walton answered that in the top of the third as his two-run home run to right tied the game at two. Michigan put up a run in the bottom of that frame. Freshman Jake Bivens singled with one out. He went to third on Glines' single and scored on sophomore Carmen Benedetti's sacrifice fly.
The Cowboys put up single runs in the fourth and fifth to take the lead, but the Maize and Blue answered in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Jacob Cronenworth walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Glines walked, and both runners moved up 90 feet on a stolen base. Benedetti drove in one with a groundout, and junior Cody Bruder singled to right to score Glines, giving Michigan a 5-4 lead.
Oklahoma State sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth, taking advantage of four Wolverine walks. Run-scoring singles from Corey Hassel, Kevin Bradley and Jacob Chappel highlighted the frame. Oklahoma State also scored on two bases-loaded walks and a fielder's choice. OSU ended the scoring the ninth as Dustin Williams tripled home Walton for an 11-5 lead.
Bivens had three hits to lead the Michigan offense. Glines added two hits and two runs batted in, while Benedetti drove in a pair. Sophomore Mac Lozer was tagged with the loss. He allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Freshman Ryan Nutof earned the start, allowing six hits and three earned runs with a pair of strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.
Michigan wraps up the regular season with a noon game against Oklahoma State at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
