Today marked the first meeting this season between the two clubs, with two more games scheduled later this year (April 15 and May 12). Michigan leads the all-time series with Eastern, 115-62-2.
Senior Jackson Glines knocked his first home run of the season in the fourth inning today, becoming the eighth different Wolverine to hit a home run this season. U-M totals 17 home runs this season after recording 18 all of last season.
The Wolverines hit three triples this afternoon, a new season high. Junior Cody Bruder had two triples, the first Wolverine to do so since May 23, 2014, when Travis Maezes hit two three-baggers against Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.
Sophomore Johnny Slater hit his first two career home runs, a three-run shot to right in the sixth inning and a similar three-run blast an inning later. Slater is the first Wolverine since to homer twice since Jacob Cronenworth hit two at Illinois on April 12, 2014.
U-M set several offensive season highs today, including hits (20), doubles (7), triples (3), home runs (3) and total bases (42).
Junior Evan Hill pitched two innings today, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out two in his first start back from injury.
With his first-inning single, freshman Jake Bivens extended his reached-base streak to 16 games.
Junior Cody Bruder set career highs with five hits and four runs batted in this afternoon. He also set team highs with five hits, two triples and 11 total bases. The last time a Michigan batter picked up five hits was March 3, 2012, when Will Drake tallied six hits against Chicago State.
Sophomore Carmen Benedetti had three hits today for the second consecutive game. He has notched a trio of hits five times this season and eight times in his career.
