ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Erik Bakich announced the recruiting class for the 2015-16 academic year earlier this month. The Maize and Blue has 13 incoming student-athletes, including ten freshmen and three upperclassmen. [ Full Release ]
The next five students from the class to be recognized will be freshmen Ricky Karcher (Saline, Mich./Saline), Troy Miller (Aptos, Calif./Soquel), Joe Pace (Valley Village, Calif./Notre Dame) and Jack Bredeson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead).
Ricky Karcher - RHP - Saline, Mich. / Saline
Member of Ponte Vedra High School School in Ponte Vedra, Fla. before relocating to Saline, Mich. for his senior season ... Was a member of the Ponte Vedra baseball team ... Named to All-District First Team and All-County First Team as a junior ... Helped guide Saline High School to highest win percentage in school history with a 35-3 overall record ... Named to All-District and All-Region teams as a senior ... Voted team's Most Valuable Player ... Finished senior season with a 9-0 record and a 0.41 ERA ... Held opponents to a .152 batting average ... Tossed 52 innings ... Also competed with the Orlando Scorpions summer league team in Florida and the Detroit Metro Stars in Michigan.
Troy Miller - RHP - Aptos, Calif. / Soquel
Was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Soquel High School in Soquel, Calif. ... Finished his junior season with a 6-1 record and a 2.53 ERA ... Struck out 44 batters in 55.1 innings pitched ... Named the Santa Cruz County Athletic League Pitcher of the Year as a junior ... Also earned All-County First Team honors and was a Central Coast Honorable Mention ... Finished his senior season with an 8-1 record and a .124 ERA ... Struck out 67 batters in 68 innings pitched ... Was the Santa Cruz County Athletic League Player of the Year ... Also named the Santa Cruz Sentinel All-County Player of the Year ... Named to the All-County First Team as a senior and was honored as the Northern California Preps Division III High School Player of the Year ... Was an Area Code Games Selection for the Oakland A's in 2014 ... Also earned Perfect Game All-America Honorable Mention and Perfect Game Second Team All-Region Honors during his senior year ... Played summer league baseball with the Cal Club Baseball team and the Pacific Union Financial Group Capitalists ... Was a four-year honor roll student and played varsity basketball for two seasons.
Joe Pace - IF/OF - Valley Village, Calif. / Notre Dame
Competed with the Notre Dame High School baseball team in Sherman Oaks, Calif. ... Was a four-year letterwinner ... Received the Coaches Award as a freshman .. Named the team's Most Valuable Player during his sophomore season, after earning a .500 batting average ... Named to the All-League First Team as a senior ... Helped guide his team to a Mission League championship during his senior season ... Honored as a Scholar-Athlete for all four seasons ... Graduated with honors ... Also competed with the GBG Marucci Navy summer league team.
Jack Bredeson - RHP - Hartland, Wis. / Arrowhead
Was a two-year varsity letterwinner at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wis. ... Also played one year of junior varsity baseball ... Was a three-year letterwinner for the varsity football team ... Played two years of varsity hockey ... Also ran track as a sophomore ... Competed with the GRB Rays summer league team out of Madison, Wis.
Michigan finished the 2015 season with a Big Ten Tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament, where it went 2-2 and did not advance past the regional final.
