The Wolverines, winners of five straight, collected a Big Ten sweep for the first time since taking three games at Minnesota in 2008 (May 9 and May 11[DH]). The last Michigan sweep of MSU was a four-game sweep in 2008 (April 18, 19 [DH] and 20).
Sophomore LF Zach Zott, who is hitting .347 (25-for-72), was 2-for-4 with a first inning home run, the first round-tripper of his U-M career, giving him hits in 11 of his last 12 games. He also scored two runs and drove in two runs.
Zott's first inning two-run homer proved to be his third game-winning RBI this week and his third career `gamer' as a Wolverine.
Zott has nine multi-hit games this season and 14 in his U-M career. Zott has had two hits in seven of his last eight games and is hitting .455 (10-for-22) in Big Ten play.
Freshman 2B/RHP Jacob Cronenworth, who is hitting .342 (38-for-111), was 1-for-3 with a run-scoring double in the third inning Sunday at Michigan State to extend his season/career-best hitting streak to 15 games. He added a walk, a sac fly, a run scored and two RBI.
Cronenworth leads the team with 23 RBI.
Senior/junior LHP Logan McAnallen (2-2, 3.34 ERA) pitched 5.1 innings Sunday at MSU allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts as he collected his second win of the season and his third career win.
Freshman SS Travis Maezes, who is hitting .288 (34-for-118), was 1-for-5 with a third-inning single to extend his hitting streak to four games in overall play and five games in Big Ten action.
Freshman 1B Jack Sexton, who is hitting .214 (18-for-84) was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and one run scored. Sexton has four multi-hit games in 2013.
Junior catcher Cole Martin, who is hitting .196 (18-for-92), was 3-for-4 with three singles, a run scored and one RBI as he moved his hitting streak to three games. Martin is 10-for-21 (.476) with four doubles and a homer in his last seven games.
Martin, who has started 28 of U-M's 30 games this season, has five multi-hit games and all three of his three-hit games in 2013. He has 10 career multiple-hit games in 113 contests as a Wolverine.
