Michigan is 6-6 in the four years of the Big Ten-Big East Challenge. U-M was 3-0 in 2009, 1-2 in 2010, 0-3 in 2011 and 2-1 in 2012.
Senior co-captain 3B John Lorenz, who is hitting .364 (4-for-11), was 2-for-4 with a career-best five runs batted in. Lorenz opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the first inning and it proved to be his sixth career game-winning RBI.
Lorenz has eight home runs, 73 RBI and 39 multi-hit games in 162 games in his U-M career.
Sophomore RF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .385 (5-for-13), was 3-for-5 while scoring a career-best four runs and hitting his second home run of the season. O'Neill collected his first two stolen bases of the season.
O'Neill has hits in 46 of his 57 games as a Wolverine with 18 multi-hit games, 32 stolen bases and four homers in his U-M career.
Sophomore 1B Brett Winger, who is hitting .375 (3-for-8), was 3-for-6 with a double for his first three-hit game as a Wolverine.
Junior RHP Ben Ballantine (1-0, 1.29 ERA) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with a team-season high five strikeouts. Ballantine is 4-1 in his career at U-M.
Freshman LF Will Drake, who is hitting .385 (5-for-13), was 1-for-4 with a run-scoring single, two runs scored and a stolen base. He leads the team with three stolen bases and shares the lead in hits (5), runs (5) and batting average (.385) with Michael O'Neill.
Freshman 2B Dylan Delaney recorded his first career hit with a ground-rule double in the sixth inning.
