LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team was unable to hold onto a first-half lead Sunday evening (Aug. 28), allowing two second-half goals in a 2-1 road setback at Kentucky inside the UK Soccer Complex. The Wolverines took the early lead on a penalty kick goal by sophomore Fabio Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil (South Kent School [Conn.]), but the Wildcats rallied with second-half tallies to secure the victory.

Pereira tallied the first goal of the season for the Wolverines on a penalty kick at 40:36 of the first half, booming a shot past UK goalkeeper Tyler Beadle. Pereira had two shots in the game after notching a team-high seven in the opener at Bowling Green on Friday (Aug. 26).
Michigan held a 5-4 advantage in shots during the first half, but the Wildcats had four corner kicks to a single corner try for the Wolverines. UK was called for six fouls, while U-M had just one foul.
Trailing 1-0 heading in the second half, the Wildcats rallied with a pair of goals just four minutes apart to secure the victory. Matt Lodge tallied the tying goal for UK on a deflection from six yards out after a flurry of shots on sophomore/freshman goalkeeper Adam Grinwis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills HS). The tying goal came in the 77th minute of action and Tyler Riggs scored the game-winner in the 81st minute.
Michigan looks to rebound from back-to-back road losses when it opens the home season Friday night (Sept. 2) at 7:30 p.m. against Butler at the U-M Soccer Complex.
