TUCSON, Ariz. -- Freshman outfielder Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) of the University of Michigan baseball team was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team by Collegiate Baseball Magazine today (Wednesday, June 9).
Biondi hit .323 as the Wolverines' leadoff hitter for all 57 games, scoring 21 times in the first inning during his rookie campaign. He rewrote the U-M rookie record book, breaking the 55-year-old steals mark with 29 thefts and his 69 runs smashed the 18-year-old freshman standard.
The All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection led the Wolverines in runs, triples, walks, stolen bases and sacrifice bunts. Biondi also shined in the outfield, not committing an error in Big Ten play and boasting a .986 overall fielding percentage.
Biondi is the first Wolverine to earn the rookie recognition from Collegiate Baseball Magazine since the 2006 season when Adam Abraham (2006-08) and Zach Putnam (2006-08) were selected.
