ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team had two members named to the All-Mideast Regional teams as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Sophomore second baseman Chris Getz (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South HS) was named to the ABCA all-region first team while senior designated hitter Brandon Roberts (Arlington, Texas/Martin HS) was named to the second team.
Getz and Roberts were both All-Big Ten Conference first team selections and both were named to the all-tournament team at the Big Ten Tournament (May 26-30) in Minneapolis.
Getz, a transfer from Wake Forest, collected hits in 36 of his last 39 games of the season as he hit .364 (87-for-239) to rank second on the team. Getz set single-season records for hits (53) and at-bats (135) in Big Ten-only action, and his overall total of 87 hits tied for the fifth best single-season total in Wolverine history.
Roberts, selected in the 45th round of the 2004 Major League First-Year Player Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, led the Wolverines in hitting with a .368 average (70-for-190). Roberts, who played in 193 games in his four years, finished his career with 49 doubles, tying Casey Close (49, 1983-86) and Ken Hayward (49, 1982-85) for sixth place on Michigan's all-time doubles list.
