Mallernee Named Head Coach at Vanguard University

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Scott Mallernee, who spent the past two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach on University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney's staff, has been named head baseball coach at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif.
Mallernee, 27, handled the catchers and assisted pitching coach John Lowery with the Wolverines. He starts his position coaching the NAIA Lions on July 1.
Prior to Michigan Mallernee spent the 2002 season as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at the University of Kansas. Mallernee was an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky in 2001 and coached three All-Ohio Valley Conference players as the team placed third in the conference tournament.
Mallernee's departure opens the volunteer coaching position on Maloney's staff.
