Roberts Receives Big Ten Player of the Week Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior designated hitter Brandon Roberts (Arlington, Texas/Martin HS) was named winner of the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week award for his baseball performance against Penn State last weekend (May 22-23) that included nine hits in his final games in Ray Fisher Stadium.

A four-year regular with 170 career starts, Roberts closed out the weekend by going 5-for-5 with a walk in his final six at-bats at home, pushing his batting average to a career-high .362 (63-for-174). He had a pair of three-hit games in the PSU series and he has 54 career multiple-hit games as a Wolverine, including nine three-hit contests.
Roberts, who finished the Big Ten portion of the schedule with a .380 (38-for-100) average, added several milestone numbers on the weekend as he collected his 175th career hit and 100th career RBI and moved into a tie for eighth on Michigan's career doubles list with Jim Paciorek (47, 1979-82).
The Wolverines meet Penn State in first-round action of the double-elimination Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday (May 26, 3:35 p.m. CDT).
