ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With three goals and one assist over a two-game span last weekend University of Michigan men's soccer junior midfielder Knox Cameron (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman HS) was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and as the Big Ten Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday (Oct. 13). Cameron shares the Big Ten weekly honor with Indiana junior midfielder Ned Grabavoy.
Cameron helped the Wolverines to a 2-0 record during the weekend as he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over intrastate opponent Western Michigan Friday (Oct. 10) and added the game-winner and an assist in a 4-2 Big Ten win at Michigan State Sunday afternoon (Oct. 12). It marked the first time the Wolverines defeated the Spartans in regular-season play, resulting in the Wolverines taking home The Big Bear traveling trophy.
The win also earned Michigan its first full point in the Pontiac Challenge Cup all-sports series. Through two contests between the Wolverines and Spartans, Michigan leads the competition with 1.5 points. The U-M volleyball team won the first head-to-head meeting with a three-game sweep of the Spartans Oct. 1 in East Lansing, Mich.
Cameron's selection to the College Soccer News National Team is his second this season. Cameron earned national recognition for his performance against then No. 22 Loyola Marymount earlier this season (Aug. 31) when he helped the Maize and Blue defeat the Lions 2-0 with a goal and an assist.
The Wolverines host a pair of Big Ten matches this week, facing Northwestern on Friday (Oct. 17) at 1 p.m. and meeting Wisconsin on Sunday (Oct. 19) at 2 p.m. Both contests will be played at the U-M Soccer Field.
