The original plans for the Baseball Alumni Weekend, which starts Saturday (Sept. 28) with a golf outing, had called for a game with two teams of alumni players, but Maloney was able to make the change in plans. With the change in format the varsity-alumni game will be the first game for the Wolverines under their first-year head coach.
Former Wolverines who are expected for the Alumni Weekend include:
- 3B Mike Cervenak (1996-99), U-M's all-time hit leader; played this season for the New York Yankees' Norwich Navigators, AA champs
- 2B Scott Tousa (1998-2001), Lakeland Tigers
- OF Scott Weaver (1993-95), the last Wolverine to hit .400 (.418 in '95)
- RHP Bill Zepp (1965-67), played for Twins and Tigers
- OF Brian Bush (1996-99), member of Philadelphia Phillies organization
- 1B Bill Mogk (1951-53), captain of 1953 national champs; 'M' Hall of Honor
- 2B Jeff Jacobson (1980-83), All-American
- OF Fred Erdmann (1980-83), Big Ten batting champ
- RHPs Luke Bonner (1996-99) and Ryan Kelley (1996-99), who both appeared in Billy Crystal's HBO movie 61*
The Baseball Alumni Weekend features a Saturday (Sept.28) golf outing that is open to alumni and members of the public. The golf activities include a pre-game snack at the University of Michigan Golf Course, 18 holes of golf and dinner in the clubhouse. Registration for golf starts at 11 a.m., with the outing starting at 12:30 p.m. The golf outing (including dinner) is open to baseball alumni, friends and fans of the program.
