Team Tidbits
The Wolverines fired off 23 shots against Butler (Oct. 24) to raise the season total to 269 shots attempted, the third highest total in school history. The team is averaging 21.7 shots per game, on pace to set a new Big Ten Conference record, 1.4 ahead of the mark established by the 1996 Michigan Wolverines (20.3 spg). Further, with the six goals and five assists against Butler pushed the team's total to 118 points, the second highest in school history behind the 222 scored in 1997. 50!
Senior All-Big Ten candidate Mari Hoff scored a goal and an assist in the Butler contest (Oct. 24). The three-point performance pushed her career total to 50 points, making her the seventh Wolverine -- and third this season -- to reach the 50-point plateau. All-America candidate Emily Schmitt, 4-9-17 on the season, netted a goal at Northwestern (Oct. 10) to become the sixth Wolverine to reach the milestone and has 53 career points. All-Big Ten candidate Kacy Beitel, 8-3-19 on the year, recorded her 50th point earlier in the season and stands at 66 career points.
Schmitt, Hoff, Beitel Assisting Their Way to the Top
Senior All-America candidate Emily Schmitt has collected nine helpers on the season, the second highest single-season assist mark in Michigan history. Schmitt has 15 assists for her career, one ahead of classmate Mari Hoff and three ahead of junior Kacy Beitel. Schmitt is just two assists behind Limauro for third on the school's all-time list. Amber Berendowsky, who has a share of the Big Ten Conference career assists mark, holds the school records with 31 career assists and 17 assists in 1997.

Berendowsky finished the game with a goal and an assist for three points, moving her career total to 109, one ahead of Penn State's Carole Dutchka (1995-98) for the third most points in conference history. Berendowsky also owns the conference records for points in a season (53 in 1997) and goals in a season (18 in 1997).
Beitel Peaking at Right Time
Junior All-Big Ten candidate Kacy Beitel scored a goal and an assist at Minnesota (Oct. 15) to give her 6-3-15 in her last 10 games. Despite missing time early in the season due to a hamstring injury, Beitel is Michigan's second-leading scorer with 19 points and eight goals, trailing freshman Abby Crumpton. Her torrid stretch moved Beitel's career points total to 66, the third highest total in school history. The co-Big Ten Player of the Week for her performances Sept. 24-26, Beitel has game-winning goals at Minnesota, against Michigan State (Oct. 8), Purdue (Oct. 3) and in overtime against Utah (Sept. 12) while scoring the game-tying goal in Michigan's 2-1 overtime win against then-No. 15 Illinois (Sept. 24).

Consistent Crumpton

Further, Crumpton has attempted 67 shots on the season, breaking the school record of 63 set by Amber Berendowsky in 1997. With two more regular-season games remaining, Crumpton is looking to become the first freshman to lead the Wolverines in scoring since 1996, when Mari Hoff paced the team with eight goals and Berendowsky with 19 points. Kacy Beitel holds the school record for goal and points in a freshman season with 14 and 33 in 1997.

The National Scene
The Michigan soccer team held steady at No. 19 in the Oct. 25 NSCAA poll but pulled closer to the nation's top teams, garnering 19 more points this week (88, up from 69). Not including an exhibition game against current No. 9 Clemson, the Wolverines have played three teams that appear in the NSCAA's Top 25 (No. 5 Penn State, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 21 Missouri) and another two (Iowa, Minnesota) who are receiving votes. This week the Michigan adds another ranked opponent to their schedule when it faces No. 14 Kentucky.
