
Isaac Takes Silver, Ties Program Long Jump Record; U-M Tied for Seventh at Big Tens

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Freshman Quincy Isaac of the University of Michigan men's track and field team earned a second-place finish in the long jump, tying the program record in the process, on Saturday (May 16) on day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at the Nebraska Outdoor Track. The Maize and Blue is tied for seventh with 11 points.
Isaac sat in second heading into the finals after jumping a personal-best 7.73 meters (25 feet, 4.5 inches) in the second round. Sincere Robinson of Rutgers pushed Isaac into third after the fourth round, but another personal best of 7.89m (25-10.75) put the freshman back into second on his final jump. The mark tied the record set by DeHart Hubbard in 1925. Jake Wall picked up three points for the Wolverines with a sixth-place finish (7.55m/24-9.25).
A Wolverine trio will advance to the 800-meter finals, with two also setting top-10 program times. Miles Brown ran a personal-best 1:46.30 for the No. 5 time on the program performers list, Camden Law ran 1:46.32, and John O'Reilly ran a personal-best time of 1:46.59 for the No. 7Â time on the program performers list. Law and Brown won their heats to advance to the finals while O'Reilly qualified on time.
Benny Diaz ran 14.10 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals on time.
Jack Bidwell made his Big Ten Championships debut, earning a 10th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:02.41.
In the 400-meter dash prelims, Krish Gupta ran a personal-best 46.80 to come 0.14 seconds from cracking the top 10 program performers list. Will Barhite ran 47.38.
Jake Machiniak led a contingent of Wolverines in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.40, just 0.11 seconds shy of advancing to the finals. Corey Royster posted a time of 10.62 and Amit Rutman ran a time of 10.71.
Senior Zane Forist placed 15th in the discus throw with a mark of 53.14m (174-4).
Michigan will close out the Big Ten Championships on Sunday (May 17), opening the final day at 12:46 p.m. CT with the 4x100-meter relay.
