Three Wolverines Medal as U-M Finishes Ninth at B1G Outdoor Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team concluded competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday (May 17), with three Wolverines earning medals to lead Michigan to a ninth-place team finish.
Oregon captured the team title with 121 points, while Minnesota (81) and Nebraska (81) tied for second.
The Maize and Blue scored 16 points in the 1,500-meter run behind Trent McFarland's runner-up finish (4:01.84), Brendan Herger's third-place showing (4:01.84) and Riley Flemington's seventh-place finish (4:02.80). The trio improved upon their fourth-, fifth- and 12th-place finishes, respectively, from the 2025 Big Ten Championships.
Three Wolverines placed in the 800-meter run, combining for 17 points. Camden Law earned silver with a time of 1:47.29, Miles Brown finished fourth (1:47.94) and John O'Reilly placed fifth (1:48.01). Brown improved on his eighth-place finish from last year, while Law and O'Reilly each made their first finals appearance.
Benny Diaz scored one point in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing eighth in 22.26 after a fall. Nathan Lopez also added a point with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (14:14.02). Luke Venhuizen (14:32.30) placed 16th, Nolan Clark (14:40.02) was 19th and Heath McAllister (14:42.58) finished 20th.
Michigan placed ninth in the 4x100-meter relay, with Krish Gupta, Jake Machiniak, Corey Royster and Amit Rutman posting a time of 40.08. The 4x400-meter relay team also finished ninth, as Will Barhite, Gupta, O'Reilly and Brown combined for a 3:11.31 time.
Josh Huisman placed 10th in the shot put with a mark of 18.36m (60-3), while Liam Kinney cleared 4.92m (16-1.75) to finish 19th in the pole vault.
Michigan will continue postseason competition May 27-30 at the NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Ky. Selections will be announced Thursday (May 21) by the NCAA.
