
Wolverines to Take Seven-Series Streak to Kent State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Riding the momentum of seven straight Big Ten series victories, the University of Michigan baseball team (32-18) will travel to Kent, Ohio, for a midweek showdown against Kent State (37-12) on Tuesday (May 12). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium, with the game streaming on ESPN+.
Notes• The Wolverines have won seven straight conference series after taking the Sunday rubber match at Minnesota. U-M has now won 20 of its last 25 games dating back to March 28. Minnesota won the opener 13-1, but Michigan responded with a ninth-inning rally on Saturday to win 9-8 before taking the finale 8-5 behind a career outing from Michael Quedens.
• Colby Turner hit his team-leading 14th home run in the series finale at Minnesota and continues to lead U-M in all three slash categories (.383/.445/.667). He ranks second in the Big Ten in batting average and is tied for second in total bases with 136. Turner has reached base in all but four games this season, scoring 53 runs on 77 hits.
• David Lally Jr. did not pitch over the weekend after appearing in nine straight weekends, including five consecutive starts. He owns a 4.23 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 55.1 innings. Earlier this season, he made a midweek appearance against CSUN, allowing two solo home runs over five innings.
• Brayden Jefferis has been on a tear over the last 25 games, raising his batting average nearly 90 points to .351, second on the team. He has reached base in all but one game during that stretch and recorded hits in all but two, including 13 multi-hit performances. He has 26 runs on 67 hits with 39 RBIs this season.
• Cade Montgomery returned from nearly a month-long absence and earned a save with a scoreless inning at Maryland. He added two more saves in the final two games at Minnesota, bringing his season total to six. Montgomery has recorded a save in five straight appearances and six of his last seven, earning a win in the lone non-save outing.
• Matthew Ossenfort paced the Wolverines offense in Sunday's win. going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. The three hits were the first time in his career with more than two hits -- and it was just his second multi-hit game over the past month. The junior has tallied 17 runs on 26 hits with a .265 batting average this year.
• Dane Morrow tallied a career-high three RBIs in Sunday's contest. doing so with two sacrifice flies and a double. The redshirt-freshman has started seven of the last eight games with hits in four contests. Morrow is hitting .277 this season with 11 runs on 13 hits and seven RBIs.
• Kent State enters the matchup at 37-12 and sits 55th in the RPI after dropping 10 spots following a series win over Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes have won all but two MAC series this season, and own wins over Tennessee, Ohio State and Pittsburgh.
• Michigan has not lost in the four all-time meetings with Kent State, including a 16-12 win in 2000 and a 3-2 win in 2014 at neutral sites. Under head coach Tracy Smith, the Wolverines have gone 2-0 against Kent State (7-5 in 2023 and 6-4 in 2024). This will be the first meeting in Kent, Ohio.
