ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the Spec Towns Invitational on Thursday (April 9) at the Spec Towns Track, with Tyler Baker representing the Wolverines in the decathlon.
Baker ran 11.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash before jumping 6.52 meters (21 feet, 4.75 inches) in the long jump to put him in ninth. He threw for a personal-best 12.06m (39-6.75) in the shot put and cleared 1.82m (5-11.5) in the high jump to remain in ninth.
In his final event of the day, the sophomore ran 53.17 in the 400-meter dash, coming just 0.04 seconds shy of his personal best. Baker sits in seventh place (2,659) with five events left.
Michigan will continue competition at the Spec Towns Invitational at noon on Friday (April 10), beginning with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles at Spec Towns Track.
