GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the Florida Relays on Friday (April 3) at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium, setting a top-10 time in the 4x100-meter relay.
The relay squad of Amit Rutman, Jake Machiniak, Krish Gupta and Corey Royster finished seventh in the preliminary round with a time of 40.03 seconds, the No. 3 time on the program performers list. The squad advanced to Saturday's finals.
Machiniak finished 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.89 (+2.4m/s), just 0.12 seconds shy of his personal best.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Caleb Root finished 29th with a time of 53.45 to come just 0.20 seconds from his personal best, while Brayden Kennedy ran a personal best time of 53.77 to finish 32nd.
Quincy Isaac and Jake Wall made their season debuts, placing sixth (7.23m/23 feet, 8.75 inches) and ninth (7.03m/23-0.75), respectively, in the long jump.
Michigan will close out the Florida Relays on Saturday with the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round at 12:30 p.m. at Percy Beard Track.
