
DMR Fourth, McFarland Advances to Mile Finals at NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday (March 13) at the Randal Tyson Track Center, with the distance medley relay earning a podium finish.
In the final event of the night, the Wolverines entered the meet with the No. 1 time in the country (9:14.80). Brendan Herger ran the opening 1,200-meter leg, running a 2:50.07 split to put the Maize and Blue just 0.27 seconds behind leader Northern Arizona.
Miles Brown posted a 45.78-second split in the 400-meter leg to keep Michigan in second at the halfway point before Camden Law cruised to a 1:46.78 split in the 800-meter leg to give U-M the lead. Trent McFarland closed out the race with the 1,600-meter leg, keeping the Wolverines in the top three through the first six laps. Entering the final lap, McFarland fought for second with BYU, but ran out of steam on the backstretch, and the Wolverines finished fourth (9:22.77).
McFarland raced in the mile run preliminaries, finishing second in his heat with a time of 3:56.80 to advance to the finals.
Michigan will close out its indoor season at the NCAA Championships on Saturday (March 14) with the mile finals at 4:20 p.m. CT.
