ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team will open its home schedule on Saturday (Jan. 10) with the Wolverine Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. and track events will start at 11 a.m.
Notes
• The Wolverines finished eighth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, with Trent McFarland earning his second career conference title with a record-setting performance in the mile run. He set the meet record in the preliminary round (3:59.29) to top the previous standard of 4:00.56 set by Marc Weiser Director of Track and Field, Cross Country Kevin Sullivan in 1998 before taking gold in the finals (4:03.56).
• Graduate transfer John McNeil finished third in the high jump after clearing a personal-best 2.16m (7 feet, 1 inch) while the 4x400-meter relay team of Krish Gupta, Miles Brown, Jacob Koerner and Jack Juds also took home bronze (3:08.81) at the conference meet.
• Michigan sent a group of sprinters and distance runners to the Blue and Gold Invitational on Dec. 5 and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 6 to open the season.
• Malachi Mosley posted the No. 10 time on the program performers list in the 400-meter dash (47.45 seconds) in his collegiate debut, while Luke Venhuizen posted the No. 9 time in the 5,000-meter run (13:49.66) to shave eight seconds off his previous personal best.
• U-M added eight freshmen and two transfers to the squad in the offseason.
• Grad transfer Cole Romig and freshmen Quincy Isaac, Peter Donini, Luke Alverson, Jack Bidwell, Henry Dixon and Brennan McEwen are expected to make their Maize and Blue debut on Saturday.
