
Maize and Blue to Host Michigan Open in Season Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team will open its 2025 schedule at home on Friday (Aug. 29), hosting the Michigan Open at the Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are subject to Hudson Mills Metropark's $10 daily admission rate.
Notes
• U-M finished ninth at the 2024 Big Ten Championships and sixth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. Penelopea Gordon advanced to the NCAA Championships as an individual and finished 169th with a time of 20:55.8.
• The Wolverines are ranked fourth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Regional rankings.
• The team returns five of seven Big Ten scorers in Gordon, Jadyn Zdanavage, Samantha Hastie, Brooke Johnston and Lisa Luecke, losing Kayla Windemuller and Mary Caroline Heinen. Gordon paced the team at NCAA Regionals, finishing 10th (19:49.9) to earn All-Region honors, while Heinen finished 29th (20:22.4).
• Haley Deighan, Leah Hill, Rylee Tolson, Natalie VanOtteren and Anjali Hocker Singh are also expected to return to this season's lineup.
• At the 2024 Michigan Open, Windemuller (17:46.6), Hastie (17:48.3), Gordon (17:52.5), Heinen (17:57.9) and Tolson (17:59.6) claimed the top five spots. Hastie, Gordon and Tolson ran personal bests. All Wolverines competing in uniform or unattached finished with a time under 21 minutes.
• Stephanie Bertram, Sophie Cloutier, Coraline Haggarty and Emma Thomas are expected to make their Maize and Blue debut.
