
Herger, McFarland Advance to NCAA Championships to Close NCAA East First Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team closed out the NCAA East First Round on Friday (May 30) at Hodges Stadium with a pair of Wolverines advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Trent McFarland and Brendan Herger qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500-meter run, both advancing after finishing in the top five of their heats. Herger finished fifth in the first heat with a time of 3:39.81, while McFarland finished second in his heat with a time of 3:44.48. Aiden Sullivan finished 26th overall with a time of 4:02.86.
Caleb Jarema placed 17th (8:49.20) and Jozef Meyers placed 40th (9:14.20) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Camden Law finished 18th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:47.71.
In the 5,000-meter run, Nolan Clark led a trio of Wolverines with a 20th place finish (14:17.84). Nathan Lopez placed 27th (14:25.91) and Luke Venhuizen finished 39th (14:46.35).
Tianhao Wei finished 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.60 meters (51 feet, 2.25 inches), just 0.75m short of his personal best. Zane Forist finished in 14th place in the discus throw (56.42m/185-1) to come just 0.29m from qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
U-M will send a total of three athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Wednesday through Saturday, June 11-14, at Oregon's Hayward Field. In addition to Herger and McFarland, Josh Huisman (shot put) will head to the West Coast.
