ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team finishes its regular season heading to College Park, Md., on Sunday and Monday (April 6-7) for Maryland's Terps Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the University of Maryland Golf Course, which will be set up for a par 72 and 6,244 yards.
Notes
• There will be 14 teams making up the field for the Terps Invitational: Delaware, Georgetown, Harvard, High Point, Howard, James Madison, Maryland, Michigan, Navy, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Richmond, and Southern Illinois.
• U-M will travel five starters to the Terps Invitational. Redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess, junior Sydney Sung, sophomore Grace Wang, junior Lauren Sung, and freshman Thomasine Bartholdson will make up U-M's starting five. Freshman Jenna Shilts will travel and play as an individual.
• After firing four rounds of 70, Janess cracked the barrier with her 69 (-3) in the final round of the Chattanooga Classic. Not only was it a career low, but it also allowed her to rally and her fifth top-15 finish of the season -- tying for seventh. This season, she is averaging a team-best 73.91 per round, nearly three shots better than her sophomore season.
• With Janess leading U-M with her 73.91 average, Lauren Sung is behind her with a 74.48. Each Wolverine has four rounds of par this season, with Janess holding a slight lead in sub-par rounds, four to two. As a team, U-M has eight sub-par tallies and 10 of par. Overall, the Wolverines average 75.53 per round.
• For the first time in her career, Sydney Sung led the Maize and Blue at a tournament. In the weather-shortened Augusta Invitational, she carded tallies of 76 and 77 to tie for 29th in the 36-hole event. In a career-best season, she is averaging a career-low 75.35, fired a career-low 70 in the first round of the Gators invitational and posted a career-low 217 54-hole total at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
• In the fall season, the Maize and Blue had at least one Wolverine close to the top 20 in all four events. This spring, Janess and Lauren Sung paced the Wolverines with the top two finishes for U-M. In the Spartans Sun Coast Invitational, Janess tied for third (212, -4), while Sung tied for ninth (215, -1). At the Gators Invitational, Janess tied for 13th (214), while Sung tied for 17th (215).
