
Michigan Opens Season With Win at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse kicked off its 2025 season with a 13-5 victory over Jacksonville University Friday afternoon (Feb. 7) at Rock Stadium.
Senior Kaylee Dyer led the Wolverine (1-0) offense with five goals, while Calli Norris recorded her second career hat trick and Ava Class had a pair of goals for the Maize and Blue in the win. Freshman Caroline Byrd made her collegiate debut and added both a goal and an assist to the Wolverine offensive tally. As a team, U-M outshot Jacksonville (0-1) 31-27 and put 25 shots on frame.
Senior Erin O'Grady made 12 stops in the cage in the season-opening victory, while Kassidy Isaacson and Taylor Cullen each had a caused turnover on the defensive end of the ball.
Jacksonville notched the first two goals of the game in the first four minutes of action, but it was all Wolverines for the next 11 minutes as they went on a 7-0 run, including a hat trick from Dyer. The Dolphins cut the lead to four, 7-3, to end the first quarter of the contest at Rock Stadium.
Dyer opened the second quarter with her fourth goal of the game to put U-M up 8-3 over Jacksonville. The Michigan defense kept JU off the board for the entire second quarter and O'Grady made five saves as the Wolverines went into the halftime break up by five, 8-3.
Dyer led the offense with four goals, while Norris and Class each added two for Michigan and O'Grady made five saves in the first half of action.
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second half before Michigan responded with a behind-the-back goal from Jill Smith to bring the lead back to five quickly. Norris added her third of the game in the remaining minutes of the third quarter as Michigan took a 10-4 advantage into the final 15 minutes of play.
The Wolverines scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of action, including Byrd's first career goal in the final seconds, to secure the season-opening win on the road.
Michigan will stay on the road Saturday (Feb. 15) as it travels to Yale for a noon contest.
