
Wolverines to Split Weekend Between Clemson, Boston University

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will split between a pair of meets for the first time this season, heading to Clemson, S.C., for the Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 14-15) and to Boston, Mass., for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday (Feb. 15). Track events at Clemson will begin at noon and 12:40 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively, while field events will begin at 11 a.m. and 9 a.m. Action at Boston U. will begin at 10:40 a.m.
Notes
• At the Michigan Invitational, Elizabeth Tapper set the program shot put record for the fourth straight meet with a mark of 17.77 meters (58 feet, 3.75 inches) on her fifth attempt for the win. Her mark is ninth in the NCAA and third in the conference.
• Three other Wolverines had top-10 finishes in the shot put, with Abigail Russell finishing fourth (14.98m/49-01.75), Trinity Franklin fifth (14.82m/48-07.50), and Clare McNamara seventh (13.73m/45-00.50). Franklin and McNamara's marks were season bests.
• The shot put squad is ranked No. 5 in the USTFCCCA Event Squad rankings.
• Russell saw a personal best in the weight throw, earning a fourth-place finish with a mark of 19.13m (62-9.25) and coming in at No. 6 on the program performers list.
• Gabriella Newman cleared a career-best 1.72m (5-7.75) in the high jump, while Maya Anderson came 0.04m from her personal best in the long jump (5.68m/18-7.75). Both won their respective events.
• The sprinters logged four top-10 times on the program performers list. Savannah Sutherland posted the No. 2 time in the 60-meter dash (7.34 seconds), just 0.01 seconds from tying the program record. Amare Harlan had the No. 2 time in the 200-meter dash (23.58), while Payton Smith moved up to No. 4 in the 200-meter dash (23.74) and the 400-meter dash (53.20). Smith's 400-meter dash time is seventh in the Big Ten.
• In the mile run, five Wolverines had personal-best performances and top-10 finishes. Mary Caroline Heinen placed first (4:52.32), Leah Hill finished second (4:52.47), Gabbie Michael was fourth (4:57.88), Natalie VanOtteren placed seventh (5:04.82), and CC Jones finished ninth (5:13.37).
