
Wolverines Solid on Day One of Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team had a solid performance on day one of the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson on Friday (Feb. 14) at Clemson University Indoor Track and Field Complex.
The long jump was the first event of the day for the Wolverines, with Amare Harlan and Maya Anderson seeing personal bests. Harlan finished third with a mark of 6.16 meters (20 feet, 2.5 inches) while Anderson finished 18th with a mark of 5.73m (18-9.75). Harlan's mark is No. 6 on the program performers list.
Abigail Russell threw for 18.59m (61-0) in the weight throw to finish sixth.
In the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, Aasia Laurencin won her heat to advance to the semifinals with a season-best time of 8.13 seconds. She was finals-bound after posting another season-best time in the semi-finals (8.04), coming just 0.05 seconds from tying her personal best. The graduate student did not run in the final round.
Trinity Henderson ran a personal best in the 60-meter dash, finishing 59th in the preliminary round with a time of 7.69.
The final event of the day for U-M was the 400-meter dash, with the Maize and Blue running in both the Orange and Purple sections. In the Orange section, Payton Smith finished 17th with a personal-best time of 52.94. The time is No. 4 on the program performers list. Sidney Green finished 25th in the Purple section with a time of 55.08.
The Wolverines will split action to close out the weekend on Saturday (Feb. 15) with day two of the Tiger Paw Invitational and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
