U-M to Trek to No. 5 Penn State for Another Top-10 Series

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (10-2, 3-1 Big Ten) will travel to State College, Pa., for a two-game series with No. 5 Penn State (9-3, 2-2 Big Ten). The teams face off on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m., with both games streaming on B1G+ from Pegula Ice Arena.
Notes
• Michigan split its series last weekend with No. 10 Wisconsin to move to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines remain No. 2 in the national poll -- for the third straight week.
• Michigan owns a 31-20-1 record in the all-time series with Penn State and is 15-7 when playing at Pegula. The Wolverines swept the series last year in State College, winning 6-5, 10-6. Penn State answered back with a sweep in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series.
•Six weeks into the season and Michigan owns the best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 5.08 goals per game. Michael Hage leads the way with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists, while Will Horcoff and T.J. Hughes have 16 points apiece. Horcoff is the team leader in goals with 11, while Hughes and Ben Robertson have the team high in assists with 11.Â
• Robertson was named the national co-Defender of the Month for October, as decided by the Hockey Commissioner's Association. Robertson had 11 points during his first month as a Wolverine and helped the squad to its best defensive start in the 104-year history of the program. This is the first time HCA has handed out a Defender of the Month award.
• Michigan's power play continues to click along at a healthy rate of 34.6 percent, ranked second in the nation. The unit has scored on 18 of 52 chances. Hage has the most power-play points on the team with 10, with Horcoff and Hughes following with eight apiece.
• Luca Fantilli became the fifth Wolverine to score a short-handed goal this season, when he tallied one in a 7-4 win over Wisconsin on Friday night. It marked his first career shorty. Others with short-handed goals are: Josh Eernisse (2), Malcolm Spence, Garrett Schifsky and Nick Moldenhauer.
• Will Horcoff leads the nation in goals scored (11), game-winning goals (3) and power-play goals (6).
• Hughes continues to climb the all-time scoring list at Michigan. Currently with 138 points, Hughes is tied for 47th place with Myles O'Connor (86-89).
• Jack Ivankovic is 10-2 in goal with two shutouts and sports a .911 save percentage, and a 2.09 goals against average. He is the first Michigan netminder since Paul Fricker in 1979 to start a season 7-0.
• Michigan is 8-0 when it scores four or more goals this season and is 7-0 when it wins the faceoff battle.
