CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Paced by twins Lauren Sung and Sydney Sung, the University of Michigan women's golf team closed its fall season with an 881-team total and a 10th-place finish at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational today (Sunday, Oct. 19) at the UNC Finley Golf Club.
In U-M's 10th appearance at North Carolina's home event, Sydney opened with a season-low 71 (+1) to lead the Wolverines to a 288 first-round total and eighth position. Lauren followed with a team-best 72 (+2) in the second round as U-M posted a 293 to stand ninth (581) after 36 holes. The Sung twins matched closing 73s in the final round, helping Michigan finish with a 300 and an 881 (+41) overall tally to place 10th in the 15-team field.
Individually, the Sung sisters paced the Wolverines with identical 218 (+8) totals to tie for 26th. Sydney recorded rounds of 71, 74 and 73, while Lauren tallied 73, 72 and 73. Freshman Reese Ng secured a top-50 finish, tying for 49th at 225 (72-74-79). Senior Mara Janess followed at 226 (72-77-77), and freshman Vanessa Zhang rounded out the lineup at 230 (75-76-79).
With the fall season complete, Michigan transitions into its winter training schedule in preparation for the spring slate. The Wolverines will return to tournament play in 2026 at the Puerto Rico Classic, to be held Sunday through Tuesday (Feb. 1–3), at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Río Grande, Puerto Rico.
