SEATTLE, Wash. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned its first Big Ten Conference victory of the season with a 196.525-194.975 victory over Washington Saturday evening (Jan. 25) at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Graduate student Carly Bauman led the Wolverines (4-2, 1-1 B1G) as she took home a share of both the uneven bars and beam titles with a 9.850 and a 9.900, respectively. Freshman Sophia Diaz notched her third career title as she recorded a career-best 9.900 on the vault and Jahzara Ranger captured her first career all-around title with a 39.150. Senior Jacey Vore and sophomore Kayli Boozer shared the beam title with Bauman, the score marking a career best for Boozer.
Sophomore Ava Jordan stuck both of her landings as she tied a career-best 9.825 on the uneven bars, while Diaz made her collegiate debut on the floor with a 9.825.
Jordan recorded 9.825 in the second spot for the Maize and Blue on the uneven bars, which was good for a third-place finish, before Bauman went for a 9.850 to lead the Wolverine. Ranger closed out the rotation with a career-best 9.825 to tie for third with Jordan as U-M led Washington (1-4, 0-2 B1G), 49.100-48.750, after one rotation.
Jordan led off the vault rotation with a stick and Ranger followed it up with a 9.825. Junior Paige Thaxton tied a career-best 9.825 in the fifth spot before Diaz anchored with a career best and event title 9.900. Michigan took a 98.200-96.775 advantage into the halfway point.
Bauman and Boozer paced the Wolverines with matching 9.850s on the floor, while Diaz made her collegiate debut on the floor and recorded a 9.825 as Michigan led the Huskies, 147.275-145.800.
Michigan built on its lead in the final rotation with three 9.900s from Boozer, Vore and Bauman to earn the decisive victory in Seattle.
U-M will open its 2025 home slate Friday (Jan. 31) when it welcomes Ohio State to Crisler Center at 6:45 p.m.
