TOLEDO, Ohio -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned a decisive win, 197.650-194.625, over Rutgers at the Elevate the Stage event Friday night (Feb. 16) at the Huntington Center.
Graduate students Sierra Brooks and Gabby Wilson swept the event and all-around titles as Brooks won the vault (9.975), uneven bars (9.950) and all-around (39.775), while Wilson won the beam with her second-straight 9.950 and scored a 10.0 on the floor, the fourth of her career and second this season, to take home the floor title.
Michigan opened with a solid rotation on the vault as it scored a 49.300 behind a team-best 9.975 and event win from Brooks, while Wilson earned a 9.875 and Jenna Mulligan went 9.850.
Jacey Vore found her rhythm on the uneven bars and started Michigan off with a 9.850 and both Wilson and McCaleigh Marr, who made her U-M debut, followed up with matching 9.825s. Carly Bauman notched a 9.850 in the five spot and Brooks anchored with a 9.950 as the Wolverines finished the halfway points with a 98.600-96.775 advantage over Rutgers behind a 49.300 on the uneven bars.
The Wolverines earned a 49.400 on the beam as Wilson picked up her second-straight beam title with a 9.950 and Bauman notched a 9.900 in the fifth spot in the lineup. Michigan took a comfortable 148.000-145.700 lead into the fourth and final rotation over Rutgers.
The floor team continued to shine for U-M as Bauman earned a 9.875 and Reyna Guggino notched a 9.900 in the three spot. Brooks posted her second 9.975 of the day before Wilson recorded her second perfect score of the season on the floor in the fifth spot. Vore finished off her solid day with the fourth 9.900 or higher of the rotation, scoring a 9.900 as U-M earned a 49.650 in the fourth and final event to capture the victory.
Michigan will travel to State College, Pa., for the Big Fives on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 4:30 p.m. The contest will air on the Big Ten Network.
