
Michigan to Hit the Road to Take on Penn State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (14-8, 5-5 Big Ten) hits the road for its sixth game in the last 14 days, heading to Penn State to face the Lady Lions (16-5, 7-3 Big Ten) on Saturday evening (Feb. 3) at the Bryce Jordan Center. The game is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan will play in Penn State's Pink Zone game for the fifth time since 2014. U-M will wear Maize uniforms with pink trim and pink shoes in the contest.
• Michigan and Penn State are squaring off for the only time this season, with Michigan making its first trip to Happy Valley since the 2021-22 season. Michigan won both games last season, one coming in a regular-season win at Crisler Center and the other in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan has won eight straight and 11 of the last 12 in the series.
• Michigan is looking for a bounce back after dropping back-to-back contests. U-M is 5-2 following a loss this season.
• The Wolverines are looking for their third road win in Big Ten play after recording wins at Illinois (Dec. 10) and at Rutgers (Jan. 21).
• U-M is playing its sixth game in the last 14 days. The stretch started with a road game at Rutgers (Jan. 21) and has included just two home games for the Wolverines.
• Michigan is third in the Big Ten in rebounding margin at +5.6 and second in offensive rebounding at 13.6 per game. When Michigan wins the rebounding battle, the Wolverines are 13-1 on the season. When Michigan is outrebounded, the Wolverines are just 1-7.
• Junior Laila Phelia became the 31st Wolverine to reach the 1,000-point mark in Michigan's win over Maryland (Jan. 24). She is now up to 1,041 in her illustrious career in the maize and blue. Michigan now has four 1,000-point scorers on its roster in Phelia, Elissa Brett (1,501), Lauren Hansen (1,338) and Taylor Williams (1,103). Brett topped the 1,500-point mark last time out, making her one of 78 players nationally with at least 1,500 points.
• Phelia has upped her game as Big Ten play has resumed, increasing her scoring average to 18.1 points per game against conference opponents. She is fourth in the conference in scoring in Big Ten games, recording four 20-point games. Phelia also has increased her field-goal percentage to .453 in Michigan's 10 conference contests. She had her best game of the season against No. 17 Ohio State (Dec. 30), scoring a career-best 26 points. She scored 17 of her points in the second half, including nine in the final period as U-M rallied for the win. Phelia followed that up with 23 points at No. 14 Indiana (Jan. 4), marking her fifth 20-point game of the season. She recently went for 25 points on 8-for-16 shooting at Rutgers (Jan. 21) and 21 points at Michigan State (Jan. 27). In an expanded role during her junior season, Phelia is averaging 16 points per game and has scored in double figures in all but four games.
• Michigan has been led in scoring 12 times by Phelia this season, six times by Hansen and twice by Chyra Evans, with five other Wolverines taking scoring honors once. Cameron Williams, Taylor Williams, Alyssa Crockett, Jordan Hobbs and Brett have all led Michigan in scoring during a game at different points in the season.
