Wolverines Win Third Straight in Rout of Oakland

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and forced 25 turnovers in an 88-42 win over Oakland on Sunday (Nov. 17) afternoon at Crisler Center. U-M had three players in double figures and all 10 Wolverines who saw the floor found the scoring column.
Mila Holloway and Jordan Hobbs each scored 16 points for the Wolverines, with Syla Swords turning in 15 points, seven boards, three assists and four steals. U-M held a 49-19 advantage on the glass, paced by Olivia Olson's seven boards and seven each from Swords and Greta Kampschroeder. Michigan's defense forced two single-digit scoring quarters for Oakland, with Michigan turning OU's 25 miscues into 33 points.
The Wolverines were down 5-0 in the early going but answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead for good on a Swords triple from the left corner. U-M slowly extended its lead over the next several minutes, eventually doubling up the Grizzlies, 20-10, on a Kampschroeder three-point play with 1:23 remaining in the first quarter. Oakland scored the final bucket of the frame, good for a 20-12 Michigan advantage after 10 minutes.
Michigan opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, extending its lead to 28-12 and forcing an Oakland timeout just over three minutes into the frame. Hobbs jumpstarted the run with a triple, with Swords converting a three-point play and Olson hitting a short corner jumper to account for the points.
U-M held Oakland to just five points in the second quarter, grabbing a 35-17 lead after 20 minutes of action. Hobbs led the way with nine first-half points, with Swords chipping in eight while battling foul trouble. The Wolverines scored 20 points off Oakland's 15 turnovers in the half.
The Wolverines scored the first four points of the third quarter, resulting in an Oakland timeout at the 8:17 mark as Michigan's lead grew to 39-17. The U-M lead hovered around 20 points for the rest of the quarter as the Wolverines headed into the final stanza with a 58-35 lead.
The Maize and Blue exploded for 30 points in the final quarter, going 12-for-17 from the floor while holding Oakland to just seven points. Macy Brown and Ally VanTimmeren paced the home team over the final 10 minutes, each going for six points as Michigan recorded its third straight win.
Michigan continues its homestand on Wednesday (Nov. 20), hosting LIU at 5:30 p.m.
