
U-M to Face Second Straight Top-25 Opponent in No. 14 Indiana

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (11-3, 2-0 Big Ten) hits the road to face its second straight top-25 opponent, heading to Bloomington for a Thursday evening (Jan. 4) contest at No. 14-ranked Indiana (11-1, 2-0 B1G). The contest is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.

• Michigan is facing its second straight top-25 opponent in No. 14 Indiana, owners of the Big Ten's longest active winning streak (10 games). U-M picked up its first ranked win in the last contest, knocking off then-No. 17 Ohio State 69-60 at Crisler Center on Dec. 30. Indiana is up to No. 14 in the Associated Press poll. U-M is 1-9 all-time against the No. 14-ranked team.
• For the second time this season, U-M has received votes in the Associated Press poll. Michigan grabbed eight points in this week's poll after getting a win over Ohio State on FOX.
• Michigan and Indiana are two of four Big Ten teams to win their first two conference contests this season. U-M has wins over Illinois and Ohio State, with Indiana owning victories over the Illini and Rutgers. Iowa and Nebraska are the other two teams to start conference play with two wins.
• The game marks a return to Indiana for Westfield native Alyssa Crockett. This is U-M's only scheduled game in the Hoosier state this season. Michigan is looking for its first win in Bloomington since the 2013-14 season.
• Michigan picked up its first win over a ranked team last time out, knocking off then-No. 17 Ohio State 69-60 at Crisler Center (Dec. 30). U-M has 27 wins over ranked opponents under 12th-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico, which accounts for 51.9 percent of U-M's 52 all-time wins. The victory over the Buckeyes marked Michigan's first win over a ranked Big Ten team since a 71-59 win over No. 13 Maryland during the 2021-22 season (Feb. 20, 2022). Rhe Wolverines have recorded at least one win over a ranked team in each of KBA's 12 seasons in Ann Arbor.
• This contest features two of the top three scoring defenses in the Big Ten. U-M comes in at No. 1, yielding just 55.2 points per game after holding Ohio State to a season-low 60 points. IU ranks third, allowing just 57.8 points per game.
• Laila Phelia had her best game of the season last time out, scoring a career-best 26 points against No. 17 Ohio State (Dec. 30). She scored 17 of her points in the second half, including nine in the final period as U-M rallied for the win. In her junior season with an expanded role, she has scored in double figures in 11 games with four 20-point games. She leads Michigan in scoring at 15.1 points per game.
• Michigan ranked 11th in the conference last season in three-pointers made, hitting just 5.9 per game on a 33.9 percent clip (fifth). This season, U-M is currently sixth in the league at 7.9 three-pointers per game on 37 percent shooting, good for third. U-M has seven games this season with at least eight three-pointers, highlighted by four games in double digits.
