
Brady, Foster Lead the Way for Michigan at Virginia Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team battled against top competition at the Virginia Invitational at Panorama Farms on Saturday morning (Sept. 23). The Wolverines finished 14th out of 23 teams in their second meet of the 2023 season.
For the second consecutive race, graduate student Tom Brady paced the Wolverines with a time of 23:45.4. Brady started out strong, holding 13th place through the halfway mark of the race, but lost ground and finished 28th.
The next Wolverine to cross the line was Nick Foster, registering a mark of 23:49.2. Foster's position changed throughout the race, reaching 19th at the 4000-meter mark, but the graduate student ultimately finished in 32nd place.
The next three finishers for the Maize and Blue were Luke Venhuizen (24:14.9), Caleb Jarema (24.27.9) and Michael Hancock (24:27.9) who finished 81st, 102nd and 103rd, respectively.
In his Michigan debut, Heath McAllister posted an 8k time of 24:59.2. The freshman started 207th but steadily picked up the pace to gain 42 spots and finish 165th overall.
Next up, U-M will travel to South Bend, Ind., to take part in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite on Friday (Sept. 29) at 10:30 a.m.
