
U-M to Close Season at NCAA Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team will travel to Columbia, Mo., to race in the NCAA Championships on Saturday (Nov. 22) at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The 10K race will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 10:10 a.m. CT.
Notes
• This will be the Wolverines' second appearance on this course this season, having placed 18th at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri in September. Junior Nathan Lopez led the way for the Maize and Blue, running a career-best 23:14.9 over eight kilometers to place 38th.
• The Maize and Blue placed fifth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional last Friday (Nov. 14), earning an at-large bid to compete in the 32-team field at the NCAA Championships.
• Lopez finished first for U-M at regionals, placing 14th with a personal-best time of 30:08.3. Trent McFarland followed in 19th (30:26.4), while Luke Venhuizen placed 23rd (30:28.8). All three Wolverines earned All-Region honors for finishing in the top 25.
• After missing the NCAA Championships last season, Michigan returns for the fifth time in six years. In 2023, Lopez placed 141st (30:57.6) as a freshman, while Venhuizen finished 180th (31:27.3) as a sophomore.
• Sophomore Brendan Herger posted a 35th-place finish (30:57.5) in his regional debut and first career 10K race, while junior Nolan Clark finished 44th (31:20.5). Both will make their NCAA Championship debut.
• Senior Caleb Jarema will appear in his second NCAA Cross Country Championship for U-M after a strong season. Jarema placed 46th (31:25.7) at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and 158th (31:08.5) in the 2023 NCAA Championships.
