ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team is set to close its fall season heading to Palo Alto, Calif., Friday through Sunday (Oct. 20-22) for the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice. The three-day, 54-hole (18-18-18) event features a stellar 19-team field heading to the Stanford Golf Course.
Notes
• The fall finale will be hosted by former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice and also will feature the field wearing pink for the final round, or throughout the three days, to help support October's Breast Cancer Awareness month as each team will "Play for Her." • There will be 19 teams making up the field for the Stanford Intercollegiate: Arizona State, Arizona, California, Colorado, Denver, Georgia, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Stanford (host), Texas, UCLA, USC, Virginia and Washington.
• Michigan will travel five golfers to the Stanford Intercollegiate. Fifth-year senior Hailey Borja and freshman Sidney Yermish head up U-M's squad, while graduate Emilie Paltrinieri, sophomore Lauren Sung and freshman Grace Wang round of the starting five.
• Senior Monet Chun will miss the Stanford Intercollegiate as she is headed to Abu Dhabi to play with Team Canada at the 2023 World Amateur Team Championships (Oct. 25-28) at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates. Chun is part of a four-member team, playing with teammates Katie Cranston (Auburn), Lauren Kim (Texas) and captain Salimah Mussani (Stanford alum).
• After playing four years at UCLA, Paltrinieri is scheduled to make her second start at Michigan as a graduate transfer at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 20-22). She played in the 2019 edition as a Bruin, posting a 224 (72-79-73) total. Additionally, Lauren Sung returns to her hometown of Palo Alto to play in the Cardinal's home event.
• Michigan has continued to shine in the final round averaging 289.33. Both of the Wolverines top team totals have come in the final 18 -- a 283 (-5) at the Glass City Invitational (Sept. 25-26) and a 284 (-4) at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational. U-M is nearly eight shots better in the last round -- 299.00 (first) and 296.67 (second). Overall U-M is carrying a 295.00 team average.
• Borja has opened her fifth season posting three straight top-25 finishes while carrying a 73.33 per-round average. With a season-low 218 (+2) at the Mary Fossum Invitational, she posted her 13th career top-10 finish after tying for ninth. Twice this season she has fired a season-low round of 69 (-3) and she now has 31 career sub-par tallies passing Ashley Lau's U-M record of 30.
• Borja is scheduled to make her 43rd career start at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Having not missed an even in her career, Borja is eighth all-time for career starts and could catch U-M's all-time leader Laura Olin (50; 2002-05).
• Yermish has continued to adjust to the collegiate game. Starting all three events this season, they are averaging 75.11 per round. In their final round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, they broke through firing a career-low 68 (-4) -- their first career sub-par tally. That round helped posted a new career-low 54-hole total (223).
