GLENDALE, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team opened play at the 2026 Big Ten Championships on Friday (April 24) at Oakmont Country Club, posting a first-round 296 and sitting 12th after 18 holes in a tightly packed conference field.
Playing a par-70 layout measuring 6,086 yards in the opening round, the Wolverines stayed within striking distance heading into moving day. Just four shots separate seventh through 12th place, keeping Michigan firmly in the mix with 36 holes remaining.
The Maize and Blue were led by freshman Reese Ng, who fired an even-par 73 and is tied for 30th individually. Senior Lauren Sung and freshman Jaymie Ng each added 74s and are tied for 41st, while senior Mara Janess posted a 75 to tie for 48th, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole. Senior Sydney Sung rounded out the lineup with a 79.
Overall, the Wolverines sit seven shots out of sixth place and 14 back of first-round leader USC, which carded a 277 (-3), paced by three sub-par rounds from Elise Lee, Jasmine Koo and Catherine Park, who are all tied for sixth individually. Illinois' Anna Ritter holds the individual lead after a five-under 65.
Michigan returns to Oakmont Country Club on Saturday (April 25) for the second round, with the course stretching to 6,134 yards. The Wolverines will be paired with Washington and Iowa, starting off the 10th tee at 10:10 a.m. PT.
