
No. 5 Michigan to Host No. 12 Texas in NCAA Super Regional Saturday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (24-3) will host No. 12 Texas (18-10) in the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday (May 14) at 1 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Tournament and is ranked No. 5 in the latest ITA computerized ranking, which matches the highest ranking the team has earned this season. The Wolverines are No. 2 in the USTA/Tennis Channel poll.
• The Wolverines advanced to the Super Regional after posting back-to-back 4-0 wins over Western Michigan and Oklahoma in the first and second rounds. This is the sixth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance for the Wolverines and 31st appearance in program history.
• Michigan won the NCAA Championship in 1957 and placed in the top 10 five times before the format changed in 1979. Since that time, the Wolverines have made the Sweet 16 round four times (1980, 1988 Final Four, 2008, 2018).
• Six Wolverines are ranked in singles, including No. 27 Ondrej Styler, No. 63 Andrew Fenty, No. 70 Jacob Bickersteth, No. 77 Nino Ehrenschneider, No. 88 Patrick Maloney and No. 110 Gavin Young. Michigan also has two ranked doubles teams: No. 24 Fenty/Ehrenschneider and No. 29 Styler/Young.
• Ondrej Styler was selected to play at the NCAA Singles Championship, and Andrew Fenty was named an alternate. The selection is Styler's first, while Fenty competed in 2019. The teams of Styler and Gavin Young, and Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider were chosen for the NCAA Doubles Championship. This is the first time Michigan has sent two pairs since 1975.
• Michigan earned the Big Ten's automatic bid after defeating No. 2 Ohio State 4-2 in the Big Ten Tournament championship on May 1. It marked the program's first conference tournament title since the format changed in 1999, and is the first time winning it since 1996.
• Ondrej Styler was named the Big Ten Tournament MVP and earned a place on the All-Tournament team along with Patrick Maloney. Gavin Young was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned second team All-Big Ten honors. Jacob Bickersteth, Patrick Maloney and Ondrej Styler all earned first-team honors.
• Patrick Maloney joined the 20/20 Club this season and currently has 23 singles wins and 23 doubles wins. Three others have reached 20-plus singles wins, including team leader Gavin Young with 25, along with Jacob Bickersteth and Ondrej Styler with 23 apiece. Nick Beaty, Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider all have 20-plus wins in doubles.
• Ondrej Styler has lost just once in his last 18 matches, and is riding a seven-match win streak. Earlier this spring, he strung together 10 consecutive wins. He is 23-4 in singles play and 19-3 in dual action, including a 14-1 mark at No. 1 singles.
• Nino Ehrenschneider enters with the longest singles win streak on the team, having won his last 11. He is 19-4 overall and 13-1 in dual play, and went a perfect 5-0 in Big Ten action.
• Jacob Bickersteth has won his last seven matches and is 17-2 in dual matches and 23-8 overall.
• Other Wolverines with career streaks this season include Nick Beaty (12), Patrick Maloney (11), Ondrej Styler (10), Gavin Young (seven) and Jacob Bickersteth (seven, twice).
• The team of Patrick Maloney and Nick Beaty has lost just once in the last 16 matches and had a 12-match win streak snapped in the Big Ten Championship match. The unranked doubles team is clicking with a 17-2 dual mark and 18-3 overall record.
•  The duo of Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider is 10-5 in duals and 18-5 overall. The pair reached the second round of the ITA Fall Nationals in November. Ondrej Styler and Gavin Young are 8-5 as a duo.
• Michigan has dominated in doubles action, winning the point in 23 out of its 27 matches.
• Texas is the No. 12 seed for the NCAA Tournament and is ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA computerized rankings. Coached by former Michigan head coach Bruce Berque, the Longhorns are 18-10 overall and earned an at-large bid after falling to Baylor in the Big 12 semifinal. Four players are ranked in singles including Micah Braswell (No. 26), Pierre-Yves Bailly (No. 34), Eliot Spizzirri (No. 69) and Richard Ciamarra (No. 92). The Longhorns also have two ranked doubles teams in Cleeve Harper/Richard Ciamarra (No. 4) and Spizzirri/Siem Woldeab (No. 8).
