ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Seven University of Michigan women's gymnasts were named to the All-Big Ten Conference teams as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon (March 15).
For the 10th straight season the Wolverines have had at least five all-conference selections and at least four first-team selections. Sierra Brooks, Abby Heiskell, Naomi Morrison, Gabby Wilson and Natalie Wojcik were all named to the first team, and both Abby Brenner and Reyna Guggino earned second-team honors. Brenner is Michigan's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the second straight season.
U-M led the conference with five first-team honors, while Michigan State, Minnesota and Rutgers each had two.
Brooks earns first-team honors for the third straight season after winning 14 event titles, including three all-around titles. The junior all-arounder was a two-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and scored her first career perfect 10.0 at Nebraska en route to her third all-around title of the year. Brooks also set career highs on the uneven bars and floor exercise with a 9.950 and 9.975, respectively. Heading into the Big Ten Championships, Brooks ranks fourth nationally in the all-around, fifth on the floor, and sixth on the vault.
Heiskell capped off her senior year regular season with her second All-Big Ten first-team honor. The senior all-arounder notched five event titles in 2022 and set or tied career highs on all four events, including her first career 10.0 on the vault. Heiskell had a personal-best 9.975 on the floor while tying career highs on both the uneven bars and beam. In week 10 of the season, Heiskell ranks ninth nationally in the all-around.
Morrison notches first-team honors for the first time in her career after she was named to the second team in the 2021 season. The sophomore all-arounder earned one vault title and one floor title in the 2022 season and had a career-best 9.975 on the vault three times this year. Competing as an all-arounder for the first time this season, Morrison scored a career-best 39.575 against Arizona State, and she recorded a career-high 9.975 on the floor at the Rutgers tri-meet. Morrison ranks in the top 15 nationally on two events as she is 10th on the vault and 12th on the floor.
A three-time first-team all-conference honoree, Wilson won seven titles in the 2022 season, six of which came on the floor. The junior all-arounder recorded two perfect 10.0s on the floor this year and was named a Big Ten Specialist of the Week on two occasions. Wilson earned a career-best 9.975 on the vault at Big Fives and had a career-high 39.675 in the all-around at the Rutgers tri-meet. Wilson is the No. 1-ranked gymnast on the floor and ranks eighth on the vault.
Wojcik is the 12th Wolverine in program history to earn first-team All-Big Ten on four occasions and the first since Kylee Botterman did so from 2008-11. The senior won 19 titles during the 2022 season, including five each on the uneven bars and in the all-around. Wojcik was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on three occasions and was the Big Ten Specialist of the Week twice. The Douglassville, Pa., native earned her third 10.0 on vault this season and tied a Michigan record with a 39.825 in the all-around at Rutgers. Furthermore, Wojcik recorded her 100th career routine with a 9.900 or higher, with 25 coming in the 2022 season. Wojcik ranks in the top 15 nationally on all four events -- vault (11), uneven bars (5), beam (9), floor (15) -- and is ninth in the all-around.
Brenner earns the third Big Ten honor of her career as she was named to the first team in both 2019 and 2020. The Maple Grove, Minn., native competed on the uneven bars in every meet this season while also competing on the floor in all but two meets and making three appearances in the vault lineup. Brenner earned one event title with a 9.950 on the floor against Arizona State, which earned her Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors.
Guggino captures her first Big Ten Conference honor after competing in the vault lineup in every meet this season, on the beam in all but one meet, and getting in the floor lineup five times. The Tampa, Fla., native notched three vault titles this season, including scoring a perfect 10.0 on the vault at Nebraska that earned her Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors. Guggino's vault was historic as she was just the second gymnast in NCAA history to lead off a rotation with a perfect score. The sophomore heads into the postseason as the country's No. 11-ranked gymnast on the vault.
The honorees and the rest of the Michigan squad will travel to Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday (March 19) to compete for the program's 26th Big Ten championship starting at 5:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
