ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With just one weekend left to go before the Big Ten Indoor Championships, the University of Michigan men's track and field team will host the Silverston Invitational on Friday (Feb. 18) before sending a select crew to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational to chase qualifying times on Saturday (Feb. 19).
Typically a meet reserved for last-chance tune-ups for select student-athletes, a more complete group of Wolverines -- led by Big Ten contenders Joshua Zeller and Mason Mahacek, among others -- is scheduled to compete at home on and around the world-class hydraulically banked 200-meter track at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
This is the last opportunity to see the Wolverines at home during the indoor season until the 2023 campaign. Both field events and preliminaries on the track begin at 4 p.m., with finals on the track scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. All events are expected to conclude by 7:45 p.m.
Fans will also be able to catch reigning Paralympic champion and world-record-holding high jumper Sam Grewe; Olympians Mason Ferlic and Steven Bastien; former local high school sensation-turned-professional Hobbs Kessler; and multiple-time U-M All-American Joe Ellis.
While the distance crew will be relatively quiet on Friday in Ann Arbor, it will be looking to make some noise in South Bend on Saturday as the Wolverines look to post a time in the distance medley relay that will qualify them for the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
With a pool that includes school record-holder Miles Brown, mid-distance standout Cole Johnson, sub-four-minute milers Nick Foster and Oli Raimond, and sprint sensation Dubem Amene, the Wolverines will be looking to approach or exceed the school record of 9:27.67 that was set at this meet six years prior.
The relay begins at 12:20 p.m., and requires four runners to cover 4,000 meters over four legs that measure 1,200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters and 1,600 meters.Live streams of the track events and all of the field events can be accessed on MGoBlue.com. Live results will be available through Delta Timing, and updates will be posted throughout the day on the official social media channels of Michigan track and field.
